Hardware?? In terms of hardware, what do you need to start a search engine? and what about hard disks and anything else?

paul m replied: "you need a server.... probally multiple servers your hardware would not be located at your house it would be rented in a datacenter... visit hostway for a better idea but you still need the programming to run the engine not just the server Paul"

What hardware stores sell glass you can have them custom cut for you? I have a glass aquarium and want to get a custom cut piece of glass so I could add a short divider in it. Where can I go for this service? Does Lowes? Home depot? I know I could call but wanted to see if anyone here has ever got glass cut for them at a hardware store so I can have personal suggestions. Thanks!

Julie G replied: "Your local glazier would be your best bet"

Kaeleigh M replied: "I would try going to your local frame shop or craft store with a framing department. They can usually cut a piece of glass for you for a pretty good price."

Pinky D replied: "Both Lowes and Home Depot will cut glass for you as well. If you know anyone who does stained glass windows, I'm sure they would help, and they have the tools to sand the edges so you and fish don't get cut."

JACKIE S replied: "Ace Hardware or True Value Hardware stores both cut glass, bring the size with you and they can handle it"

What hardware do I need to convert video tapes to an editable digital format? I'd like to get some old videos onto the computer before the camera that can play them conks out. What hardware do I need to connect the video out to the USB in on the computer? (I've seen products that purport to go straight from video tape to DVDs, but I'd like a chance to edit before burning DVDs.)

korgrue replied: "Get yourself a nice digital capture device, and a copy of Windows Movie Maker for PC or Final Cut Pro for Mac, then edit, and burn to dvd. Here is a dated, but informative website on the topic of video capturing and editing. "

classicsat replied: "You need a video capture/tuner card. It will have A/V inputs you can connect the camcorder to, and software to record."

Underdog replied: "I used this product before ATI video captured! -?iid=880905"

Al G replied: "You need a special video capture card to convert the analog signal from your old tapes to digital. They make cards that connect to your USB but I do not recommend using them because the quality will not be very good. The transfer rate with USB is too slow to keep up with the real time capture of video unless you are captuing at a really low quality. I suggest adding a firewire port to your computer or a build in video card. Another option is to use a tape conversion service. StashSpace.Com transfers your tapes for you and has an editor so you can make customizations. You can also get your digital files back on a portable hard drive."

pureinsomniac replied: "simply put and easily converted for around $85 is a analog to digital converter , will work from any av out on any device to make the analog copy digital. easy"

Where can I find hardware to anchor my bookcases to the wall for safety? I have 2 (tall and narrow yet very heavy) bookcases just moved to an area with extra thick carpet padding. They easily tilt back and forth with ease. I need to anchor them to the wall but how? I take it that I will need to screw conecting hardware in to the wall and bookshelves, but I do not know how to and with what hardware. Please help I do not want my kids and/or pets to get crushed accidentally!

kath68142 replied: "I would seriously go to a hardware store because man, if they can't help you, something is wrong."

mother of 4 replied: "Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get L brackets. They ae cheap and easy to install. Walmart or any hardware store will also have these."

avalm@sbcglobal.net replied: "I agree with your first person who answered this question. Go into a hardware store and tell them what you want to anchor and they will direct you to the proper materials."

pop2nut replied: "If u go to a plumbing store, or Lowe's ,or HOME DEPOT, u can use that metallic "tape". It's alot like a roll of tape but it has lg& sm. holes. attach to b-case in an inconspicuous spot w/ screws, then to the wall(hopefully in a stud.)I believe plumbers call it plumbers tape, sometimes better than "L" brackets."

casey-mike@sbcglobal.net replied: "If you can attach them to studs within the walls, lag screws and washers will work best. If you can not attach to the studs you will need to use a molly bolt. Lowes has the best selection for different wall and application types."

baby replied: "Any hardware store, like Home Depot"

How a hardware device discovers the MAC address of another in the event that it is unknown? As data packets are moved from one network hardware device to another over a network, hardware address (MAC adresses) come into play? So how a hardware device disovers the MAC addrss of another in the event that it is unknown.

Roy T replied: "Data packets are split into 8 parts. the first part is called the Header. This part contains the MAC address of the sending unit as well as other information. It is an automatic process."

hanz 199 replied: "Through the IP address and a protocol called ARP (Address Resolution Protocol). If your interested in more check out the link."

Serenity replied: "MAC---Media Access Control addresses are unique and no two are the same. They are used to identify network hardware nodes. The NIC card or network adapter. Each MAC address has six octets, with each octet consisting of one byte, each byte has eight bits. The eight bits are sperated into groups of two, which are represented by hexidecimal format. While the human readable format is the hexidecimal format, each MAC address is sent across the network in a series of ones and zeros. With the most important bytes first, and the least important byte last. The manner is which these addresses are created identifies the company which manufactured the adapter. This is conveyed in the first octet of the MAC address. Dell, HP, and many other companies are easily recognized via this format. A MAC address is not unknown. While we may not know who the user is at the other end, the actual adapter is always identified, and can be determined who manufactured it, and which actual physical device lot it is, by the serial number it contains. An adapter can therefore be easily discovered not only by the network protocols MAC address translation, but also by anyone who knows how to decode the bytes and use the IEEE's charts to discover who manufactured it. At which point an investigater could contact the store, and find out exactly when it was sold, and sometimes even to who. I only include that information so you can see that every single MAC address is known. The hardware device itself does not "discover" the MAC addresses of other hardware devices, that is done by the Networking Protocol. The modem, router or other network translation devices are what use the different network translations to know which device to send data packets to. The adapter simply sends and recieves, it doesn't actually do any discovering. Each system has networking capabilities, which is why we can create an Adhoc network, or a network between devices which does not include an Internet connection. Just a simple connection between devices which allows for sharing of data. In this scenario, the small networking capabilities uses the MAC address to know where to send data. This is a very complicated issue. It is far too difficult to explain it here. Here is some resources where you can read up and get a good idea how it all works. It can be a bit of dry reading if you are not particularily interested in the details, but for me it is fun reading and can consume a great deal of my time. lol There are additional links at the bottom of the page which you may find very interesting and which can give more information. Also, put Address Translation into the search box and you will find a ton of informational sites."

What are my hardware options with pro tools m powered? I am planning to buy pro tools m-powered and am not really interested in the m-box interface. What I want to do is get a mixer with firewire and just plug it in directly to my macbook pro. Do I have to get the m-box or can I just use the instrument inpts and xlr plugs on the mixer? Basically, what are some other compatible mixers or core hardware for m-powered?

Appleguy replied: "You are getting the Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-powered confused. Pro Tools LE comes with any of the M-box interfaces. Whereas Pro Tools M-powered is a separate software that you can purchase in order to run Pro Tools with M-Audio audio interfaces such as these:--925404/cat--M-Audio-Audio-Interfaces--3217 You are on the right track though. You can only use Pro Tools with Pro Tools hardware (HD and LE). The only exception is the recent introduction of Pro Tool M-powered where you can use PT with M-audio audio interfaces. The LE and M-powered softwares are in general the same (both LITE version of PT HD). Hope this helps."

What are some hardware, software and peripheral needs for a video store? I am currently completing an IT course and need a little help to complete an assignment. What is the best hardware for high quality video capture? I have a short film that has transferred from a Panasonic DV format to High Grade VHS. I want to be able to transfer this to my PC in order to edit it at the highest quality available (VHS I guess). Anyone got any tips on what hardware to use?

clgschmangy replied: "Get a Mac. They are the best for any type of photographic capabilities. They have a program called iMovieHD. You can turn your short film into high-definition quality and burn it onto a DVD. They also have a program you can buy called Toast which allows you to take your old LP's or 45's and turn them into MP3's."

Nic replied: "If you transferred your footage from the DV tape, to a VHS, and then back to your PC, from what others have told me, you run the risk of losing some quality in your footage. Like the person before me told you, your best bet is to get a Mac. Then again, I've done some work on a PC and a PC has produced the same quality as a Mac. It's whatever you're comfortable working with, but many people will tell you to go with the Mac."

• What are four hardware components controlled by the operating system? What are four hardware components controlled by the operating system Would they be Memory, Hard Disk ( Physical Disk), Hard Disk ( Logical Disk) and Processor? Or are those not really classified as Hardware? Since you have hardware twice would logical and physical be correct?

darth6655 replied: "hardware controlled be the OS would be any output and storage device so the monitor, the speaker, RAM and the HD are 4"

Excido C replied: "Try a list of these common PC components: CPU RAM IDE/RAID/SATA controllers Video/Sound/Ethernet cards to name a few"

Does anyone know where I can buy the hardware to install two shower doors? I have acquired two chrome accent shower doors and I want to install them where my gold ones are now. I only have the doors so I need to replace the track and hardware too, but I can't seem to find a place where I can buy just the hardware. Does anyone know of a place that would sell it? Thanks!

gurneywagon replied: "Try a plumbing parts store."

David N replied: "I would check with the manufacturer. Web site, Phone book"

green replied: "Check here: You will find what you like! Good luck!"
